While is has been a great summer for bay sailing with regular afternoon seabreezes, it has been absolutely terrible for wavesailing! With a decent South Easterly pattern and a bit of swell showing up on a Saturday it was decided to make the most of it and head to Gunnamatta.

VWS Round 1 – 2012/13 Long Arms, Sandy Point It seems like there is never any wind on the weekends anymore! After two months of waiting we finally completed Round 1 of the VWS over the Melbourne Cup Long Weekend. With the forecast looking less than stellar all hopes were on Saturday delivering the first Easterly of the season combined with a fun sized swell. Most got out and made the most of the fun SUPing conditions in the morning before the wind slowly started to clock around and build. After much debate it was decided to run the first ever competition held at the infamous ‘Long Arms’ with the help of the Waratah Bay Surf Lifesaving Club.

Hello Wave Sailors Well it's that time again.....It's time to kick off the 2012/13 Victorian Wave Sailing Season and this year is going to be bigger and better! The event window is officially open from NOW to the end of March. Following in the success from last year's series, this season's format very similar with a few tweaks. All wavesailing events will be on call apart from the scheduled events such as Melbourne Cup Weekend down at Sandy Point. If we are fortunate with the weather and get more than 3 events, we are going to allow each competitor to disregard their worst result. This will help the title contenders if they cannot compete at all the events. In continuing to encourage beginners and intermediates into wavesailing, we will host another wavesailing clinic when weather permits down at Sandy Point to get more people into the waves and provide a few tips to the up and comers. We are also want to try and keep pushing everyone to try new moves by spicing up the some of the expression sessions and offering prizes for windsurfers who pull the trigger and make their first loop or launch into their first aerial for example. Another thing to keep on the radar is “King of the Bay” held at the world famous break Pookipa (aka Elwood beach in front of the poo pipe!). This will be a standalone event with an event window starting after Christmas and could be any day of the week when the wind gets 25 knots plus south, south westerly.
We will notify you when the comp is on via email, SMS, http://www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Victoria/, Facebook & Twitter. To make sure you're on the contact list please either Sign up directly here or email your name, email address and phone number to:

and we will make sure to let you know when the forecast is looking good!
For all the other details, please log into www.vicwavesailing.org which is continually being updated with the latest competition format, results, sailing locations and news.
So get out your rosary beads, start your wind and wave dance or whatever you think brings the wind and waves because the next promising forecast we will be kicking off the 1st Event of the Victorian Wave Sailing Series at a beach near you! We hope to see you there and spread the word! |

Well that’s a wrap for another season!
That draws to a close the season ‘event window’ to hold a roaming event. It’s been a great series with over 50 regular competitors; we held four great events and crowned our winners in both classes! We started the season off with some great events early with a nice SW down at Right Point on Philip Island and then a light Westerly at Point Impossible. We got pretty lucky with wind, and only one event the wind never came through and left us all sitting on the beach at Woolamai! Cup weekend in Nov we had a strong Westerly at Warratah bay’s ‘The Gap’ which saw heaps of guys hit the water, and then the final round in Jan was a great fun SE at Sandy Point with small swell and heaps of wind which really suited the Intermediate class, with stacks of people getting out into the waves that day. Huge thanks to everyone who supported the series by coming along to a round, thanks to our series sponsors; Windsurf Victoria, RPS, The ZU, SHQ & Core Boardsports.
Now to the important part… the winners!
Open Division 1st Joel Ryan -62points 2nd Tom White – 50points =3rd Andrew Hocking – 45points =3rd Alastair McLeod
Intermediate Division 1st Andrew Donegan – 55points 1st Tom Rosoman – 55points 3rd Ben Donegan -43points Full results:

Stay tuned for details of the presentation night
