Round four of the Victorian WaveSailing Series was held at Sandy point on Sunday with great sunny & windy conditions! The forecast was spot on, and over 30 competitors taking to the water in both the intermediate & expert classes. The wind was SE and started off around 25knots, but quickly picked up to a consistent 30knots cross off. The swell started off a fun shoulder high size but started dropping and getting less consistent as the tide went out. Both classes competed in a 20min expression session, each with the top 4 going through into a man on man final.

Round 3 of the Victorian Wavesailing Series kicked off at Waratah Bay on Melbourne Cup Day - 1/11, as the last part of the SHQ Melbourne Cup Sandy Point Event. The conditions were tricky with a small 2ft wind swell and fickle cross to cross onshore winds. Some great jumping was possible if you were in the right spot at the right time! The turn out for the event was great with full Open and Intermediate divisions.

The wind finally came to play for round three of the Victorian Wave series!
Sandy Pt provided the strong turn out of sailors with a building Easterly and nice swell. To kick things off while we waited for the breeze to build, Alistair McLeod ran a brief beginner wave sailing clinic and gave some pointers on all things wavesailing, everything from what gear to rig, to getting out over whitewater. |

Hi Everyone, The SHQ Sandy Point event runs over 4 days from the 29th of October to the 1st of November. We will be running another round of the VWS series on one day over the long weekend and points will go towards the overall Victorian championship.
At this stage the forecasts are conflicting between a strong south westerly pattern (cross onshore starboard tack) and east to south east (cross/cross off port tack) over the four days. Either way it looks as there will be wind so it is very likely the comp will run.
The event format will run in the same way as the previous VWS rounds with intermediate and open divisions, although SHQ will be running some additional expression sessions etc. There will probably also be a wavesailing clinic at some point over the event.
To take part in the event you can register online at the SHQ website now, and you must be a member of Windsurfing Victoria or equivalent state organisation.
Should be an awesome time, See you all there.

Victorian Wave Series Round 2 Point Impossible The second round of the 11/12 VWS series was held at Point Impossible on Sunday 16/10. A great turn out of wavesailors were greeted with Westerly winds around 20-25knots with some fun sized 2ft waves which made for some great wave riding and jumping. The sun was out and the wind was up early which saw over 30 guys on the water having a free-sail before the expression sessions got under way. I know we keep saying this, but the level of sailing as increased so much recently! It's great to see for the sport in Victoria. |
