Windsurfers! Last Saturday saw Round 2 of the Vic Wavesailing Series completed at Waratah Bay (The Gap). The wind guru’s were spot on with their forecast with 20 knots cross shore winds and 2 foot surf. The wind and waves hung around all day which enabled us to run through a complete event and also left us with plenty of time for free sailing afterwards.
We had 10 competitors fighting it out for glory in the Group A division. The format for the day was a warm up expression session, followed by 2 judged heats of 5 sailors where the 2 best sailors from each heat progressed into a man on man semi finals, followed by a final. Andrew Hocking, Tom White, Andy Acland and Evan Hawkey progressed from the heats into the semi finals with some great down the line waveriding and impressive looping. Andrew Hocking and Tom White won through to fight it out the in final. Tom White sailed a very intelligent final by racking up the points early which saw him win by unanimous decision from the panel of judges.
After completion of 2 rounds, we have a leader board which has Evan Hawkey sitting up at the top of the Vic Wavesailing Series with 40 points followed by Andy Ackland, Tom White and Andrew Hocking on 25 points. We currently don't have a Group B division up yet as we are still deciding on how to manage that with the results from the 2 rounds.
Thank you to everyone who turned up to Round 2 last weekend and I hope to see you all at the next event. For a full listing of the current results and standing, check out the RESULTS link.
